I bernoccoli e la sicurezza stradale ovvero: serve il casco anche in casa? A simple way to estimate reasonable values of the forces and pressures acting on the head during collisions is proposed to highschool students. Starting from known situations, the physiological tolerance limit is estimated. The limit situations are then analysed and conclusions are drawn on the convenience of protecting the head with technologically suitable helmets

Membrane saponose e loro tensione superficiale Soap bubbles and soap films are interesting and amusing. This article describes an experiment on soap films which can be used at secondary school level that involves forming a film with the shape of a deformed quadrilateral in an area bounded by two rigid straws and two pieces of thread of equal length attached to their ends (Fig. 1). By means of a theoretical demonstration we derive an equation that allows to obtain the surface tension of the soap solution within a precision of about 10%. From a pedagogical point of view, this activity could make pupils reach a deeper understanding of the behavior of the surface tension forces.

Lo spessore di una bolla di sapone Measuring the thickness of a soap bubble is an intriguing problem that can be solved - at least with respect to the order of magnitude - with scales of 0.01 grams sensitivity (or better). Solving this problem at secondary school level and up is a motivating activity that requires the students to concretely exercise their inventiveness

Una versione moderna dell'esperimento di Fourier sulla conduzione termica entro un anello di metallo This work deals with a famous historical experiment, i.e. the experiment that allowed Fourier to establish his theorem about the series expansion of a periodic function. In our experiment, that deals also with many aspects of the theory of heat, we warmed up an aluminium ring by means of a flame pointed towards a single point of the ring. Then, after having suppressed the flame, we monitored the temperature of the ring by means of 16 thermocouples connected on-line with a computer. While the ring was cooling down, the temperature profile was found to evolve towards an almost perfect sinusoidal profile, just as Fourier guessed, relying on two facts: (a) the temperature profile along a ring can always be expanded in a series of sines and cosines; (b) the different harmonics of this series disappear more rapidly if their order is high.

Il valore efficace della corrente alternata This article describes an experiment to show the reason why alternating currents are rated according to their heating power (for sinusoidal currents, the r.m.s. value). The luminosities of a 6V filament lamp are compared when it is powered by a battery and by a transformer, adjusting the current to be the same according to the readings on the appropriate meters. The results are discussed

Una misura didattica del flusso di energia radiante In this article radiant energy flux is measured referring the temperature of a small blackened body to the temperature of a similar reflecting body. The reliability of the method is checked using electric lamps of different power output. Then the apparatus is used for measuring the efficiency of a solar cell, giving results within a 15% uncertainty.

Misurazione di grandezze cinematiche con un personal computer on-line An automatic device for studying motions is described in this paper. The device consists of a dynamics cart carrying a phototransistor that receives the light reflected by a sheet of paper whit black and white stripes, on which the cart perpendicularly moves. The electric signals generated by the phototransistor as it passes in front of the two kind of stripes is sent, after amplification, to an Apple II+ computer. The number of transitions per second, i.e. the speed of the cart, is counted by the computer via software. Speed, distance and acceleration can be shown on the screen of the computer itself.
